Orange Shirt Day/Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada
Today, we recognize Orange Shirt Day! As an ongoing act of reconciliation we will honour Orange Shirt Day the last Wednesday of the month. It is our hope that this will serve as a reminder for our students and community to remember all the children who never returned home from residential schools and the survivors, their families, and communities.
Furthermore, this week our students have had the chance to explore the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada which has been set up in the gym. This map shows the locations of Indigenous communities, residential schools, reserves and more. Rather than political borders, Canada is broken up into Indigenous language groups. This resource has assisted students in understanding the past, present and future of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. SHOUT OUT to Mme. Klemmer for organizing!
